The portrait of the American cowboy is one of courage and strength, and sometimes hauntingly silent. In places where normal men fear to work, the cowboy is ready to take on the elements of this world and get the job done. Ray Krebbs was no exception to this stereotype. He walked a hard road and did it willingly.

Born in Kansas in the year 1945, Ray's mom was an Army nurse and his dad was the local town handyman. Ray's father abandoned the family when Ray was only 3, and so his mother did what she could to raise the restless and troubled youth. At the age of 15, she sent him to Southfork Ranch with only $20.00 and a letter to Jock Ewing. Jock managed to straighten the boy out by giving him work on Southfork Ranch. Ray did his work so well that eventually he became the foreman.

There was a mysterious connection between the oldest Ewing and Ray, the physical resemblance too strong to ignore. In 1980, Ray's real father surfaced and explained to Ray that Jock Ewing was his biological and true father.

Ray married politician Donna Culver in 1981 and the marriage was happy for a few years. But, like most cowboys, the combination of life and love just didn't mix well. When Donna became pregnant, she tried to reconcile with Ray, but he wanted no part.

When Ray married again, it was with Jenna Wade. She already had one daughter named Charlie, and a son by Bobby Ewing. Troubles in this family caused Charlie to be sent away to Europe. Not long after, Ray and Jenna moved to Switzerland to live. In the final episode of Dallas, Ray appears in the dream sequence of J.R., having financial difficulties, even prompting J.R. to admit he feels sorry for Ray. Also in the dream, Ray Krebbs has a son by the name of Jock.
