For being the kind and compassionate person that he was, Bobby Ewing equally had his share of misfortune. It's been said that suffering builds character. Already, Bobby had experienced plenty of suffering from his older brother's misconducts, his failed marriage with Pamela, and been the victim of a shooting. But his time wasn't over yet.

“Swan Song” was the episode written especially for Patrick Duffy, who was ready to leave the series behind. During the season, Bobby had been romantically involved with Jenna, but his heart was not in the relationship for the long term. This created the perfect opportunity for Bobby and Pamela to rekindle their passion for each other.

The two spent a night together in Pam's house, and the following morning Bobby asks her to marry him again, and Pamela eagerly agrees to his proposal. Bobby needs to return to Southfork and tell Jenna that his relationship with her is finished. He doesn't notice a strange car that is waiting in the driveway, outside of Pam's house. Love is blind!

As they say their respective good-byes to the other, the unseen car suddenly accelerates and heads in the direction of Pamela. Bobby shouts out a warning for her to move, and at the same time , is running toward her, probably slower than the car, though. The car hits Bobby Ewing at full speed and the force of the collision tosses his body over the top. Following this, the car crashes into the van of the gardener, and he pulls the body of a dead woman from inside the car. Katherine! She just hit Bobby Ewing with her car. Later, in the hospital, a badly hurt Bobby cannot survive his injuries and dies.
