Once again, Southfork Ranch is recovering from tragedy and moving on to the next. "End Game" finds the Ewing family reliving a tragedy that had occurred years earlier. First, let's build up the suspense.
In season 6, Bobby and Pamela divorced because of interference from guess who (J.R.), and Sue Ellen and Cliff Barnes had their share of personal grievances with him as well. But the twisting of plots also involved other people with revenge towards the Ewings on their minds. Katherine had been involved in the divorce of Bobby and Pamela, she had apparent plans to make Bobby her husband. He decided he would marry Jenna Wade. Peter Richards had been having an affair with Sue Ellen, and J.R., who never missed an opportunity to be mean-spirited, had phony drug charges brought against the boy. Peter promised to kill J.R.; certainly not the first the first time anyone had made this threat. At night, we see J.R. in his office. The phone rings and when he answers, no one replies. Sounds familiar? Of course, he is very unsuspecting to think that anything can possibly be wrong. Someone enters the darkened building of Ewing Oil and begins searching the offices. Coming upon the door to J.R.'s office, the intruder sees that it is open. Looking into the office, he can see that someone is sitting in the chair. With precision, the intruder aims and fires a gun, putting 3 shots in the body. Can it be that this time, J.R. is finally going to be killed, as so many of his enemies have promised? No!! No!! It can't be true, Bobby Ewing is not the one supposed to be sitting there in that chair, it's supposed to be J.R. that is murdered. |
