On May 3, 1991, the Dallas television series officially came to a close after 13 seasons and 357 episodes. There were good times, bad times, high and low times. Actors had left the series and returned, (Patrick Duffy, Barbara Bel Geddes), others left the show completely (Victoria Principal). The series sadly lost some of their characters to death (Jim Davis). Even so, the series remained so popular, that there was plenty of magic to write new stories for special movies.

The first was entitled “Dallas, the Early Years”, and was broadcast on March 23, 1986. The story centered on the beginnings of the Barnes' and Ewings' fight during the Great Depression Era of the 1930's. Here, the story tells of the friendship of Jock Ewing and Cliff Barnes as business partners, but later Ewing succeeds in taking everything away from Barnes...the oil, the money, and even the girl.

“J.R. Returns” was shown on November 15, 1996, five years after the series had actually ended.

His life is in absolute shambles. He is without money or family, and Cliff Barnes is now the owner of Ewing Oil Company. History has taught nothing to J.R., and soon he is planning new ways to lie, steal, and corrupt. In order for him to return to money and power, he “fakes” his own death (again). He still must contend with family issues with Sue Ellen, his son John Ross, and brother Bobby about Southfork Ranch.

“The War of the Ewings” aired on April 24, 1998. Here, it seems to be a more controversial episode as the shower scene of Bobby and Sue Ellen from 13 years earlier, is in fact J.R.'s bad dream.

With Bobby owning Ewing Oil and J.R. with Westar Oil, these 2 companies are in direct competition with each other. The show is dedicated to each individual Ewing doing what they can to out-smart the other. The movie ends after both Bobby and Sue Ellen punch J.R. in the face, but all he does is smile.
